Sometimes you have an opportunity to do something that is just plain great. I got to do that today. One of the bullets on my resume is my tenure as an Administrator at Capital Christian Middle/Senior High School in Sacramento from April 1980 to December 1991. Today I had the opportunity to tour the Capital Christian High School campus with Todd Jacobs, Superintendent; Katie Nelson, Elementary Principal; Debbie Krug, retired Preschool Director, and her husband, Kelly; and of course, my husband and chauffeur, Cliff.
The facilities were awesome; every student should be proud to be a student there. However, what was special to me was the warm reception I received from the Superintendent, Todd Jacobs. I also had the opportunity to hug former students who are now teachers, and other friends who work in the school.
I loved every moment of every day I worked at CCS, and I think/hope I had some positive impact on the school’s initial formation, so naturally, I was curious about the students, programs, and the spiritual climate of CCS. Mr. Jacobs and his staff are doing a great job; his mission is clear: to provide a quality Christ-centered education to young people. One of the reasons I enjoyed my visit with him is his philosophy and approach to working with students. He cares.
I am very thankful for my years at Capital Christian School. There were some things we did right, and unfortunately, there were some things we could have done with more wisdom. This I do know, the students were loved and prayed for daily. We did care.
Why was today important? Closure? As I said, I loved my time with the students. I prayed for them, cried over them, and rejoiced with them, but there is/was some personal unfinished business. What does this have to do with ALS…closure. When you have a disease like ALS, you live with intention and take nothing or anyone for granted. Today was good; there was some healing. Thank you, Katie and Debbie, for putting this together.
